Every year I have that moment: December isn’t approaching, it’s here. Instead of feeling magical, the season suddenly feels overwhelming. Anyone else feel that way?


A few years ago, during one of these hectic moments, I created the Neat Little Planner for myself. I loved bullet journaling, but designing my own spreads during busy seasons felt like another full-time job. This is where I take a breath and look at the whole month at once. Using the Monthly Quad in the Neat Little Planner helps me stop reacting and start intentionally choosing how I spend my time. The quad layout, based on urgency and importance, makes it easier to evaluate each task and prioritize effectively. By taking the time to put items on the page, I can see in one spot and reflect on:


  • What needs to happen now

  • What I can say “no” to

  • What I can delay or do another time

  • What I can delegate to someone else

  • What I want to say “yes” to

  • What tasks might take more time to plan and complete

  • Where I can rest and recharge


I usually set aside 30–60 minutes each month for this exercise, and it’s some of the best time I can spend with myself, thinking and reflecting on what’s truly important. Using a monthly planning system like this not only boosts productivity but also helps me manage my time, reduce stress, and stay focused on my goals.

The weekly spread is where the big picture becomes real life. It gives my brain a clear view of the week ahead: appointments, critical tasks, things I don’t want to forget, and habits I want to track. Some weeks feel calm, others feel like a sprint, but this page keeps me from carrying the entire week in my head.

These spread pages are new in 2026 and might surprise you the most. A quick reflection at the end of the week helps me understand what worked, what didn’t, and what I want next week to feel like. It keeps me from slipping into autopilot, especially when the season gets hectic. It also helps remind me that I'm steering the ship and can make adjustments while we're going along based on new information.
