s'mores kit - organized + reinvented

There is something about summer that makes everything slow down a bit so you can linger on small things a little more like reading in a hammock, looking for rocks or shells on a shoreline or making s'mores by a fire after a day of working or playing outside.

When I was small, we knew we were in for a treat if we saw a bag of marshmallows, a box of graham crackers and delicious bars of chocolate sitting on the kitchen counter. While today we still enjoy the simplicity of a tried-and-true s'more, we've also experimented with some new kinds of inclusions like peanut butter cups and m&m candies and I'm happy to tell you they are a wonderful surprise.

As my family began to invite others and get invited to backyard events again, I wanted to find a way I could transport a s'mores kit to gift to an event host or set up a pretty display for my own use when we had company over. I realized that incorporating Ball® Wide Mouth Quart Jars and Ball® Stars & Stripes Pint Jars was the perfect option.

On the practical side, Ball® jars have lids, making it easy to assemble everything ahead of time and keep in your cupboard or pantry until it's time to use them. From the visual appeal side, I love the way that stacking the crackers looks in the Ball® Wide Mouth Quart Jars and the peanut butter cups and the marshmallows looks in the Ball® Stars & Stripes Pint Jars. It's a win-win for a picnic or outdoor event.

Since we're in July and the Summer Games are in full swing, I thought it would be fun to spruce up the s'mores kit and add a little red-white-and-blue m&m's to the mix of items to make as part of s'mores night. I can tell you from trials with my two kids that the aforementioned new inclusions of m&m's and peanut butter cups have them as raving fans.

As you and your families move through the blissful days of the summer months, here's hoping you are able to take a few evenings to savor a freshly toasted marshmallow s'more. I would love to hear about about your varying and creative ways to change up their delicious and melty inclusions.
